Dry apricot halves on paper toweling until as dry as possible. Beat egg with milk; stir in the melted Crisco. Combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt; add to egg mixture and stir just until mixed. Dip apricots in batter. Fry, a few at a time, in deep Crisco heated to 3650 until fritters are brown, about 4 minutes, turning once.(Do not use the frying basket.) Drain on paper toweling. Roll in confectioners sugar. Serve warm.
