sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large mixer bowl. add sugar, salt, 2 tablespoons crisco, and 1-1/2 cups flour. blend at low speed until moistened, then beat for 3 minutes at medium speed. using a spoon, stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. place dough in a greased deep bowl and turn to grease top. cover; let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
heat crisco to 365°F in deep saucepan or deep fryer.
cut yeast dough into 1-inch pieces; stretch pieces slightly and fry in hot crisco for 1-1/2 minutes or until golden brown; turn over once.
drain on paper towels. shake in a bag with cinnamon sugar. serve warm.
